connectwest is a membership-based network aimed at enabling the connections and collaboration of community groups, leaders and volunteers in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

OVERVIEW
connectwest is a volunteer-led, member-based network connecting, promoting and supporting community leaders across Melbourne’s western suburbs (“West”). Established in 2017, connectwest aims to support community leaders from various backgrounds, experiences and special interest areas, by addressing identified gaps in current capability and capacity, networking and information sharing.
connectwest delivers a range of activities for its members, building their capability and working with and for them, to increase connection, collaboration and shared learnings:
- Advocacy – providing a collective voice for community leaders in Melbourne’s West
- Leadership development – Designing and delivering activities and events that build capability in community leadership and add value to existing community leadership development programs
- Networking opportunities – creating collaborative environments for sharing of sector information, leveraging collective strengths and maximising community value
Who?
connectwest aims to connect, promote and advocate for community leaders, volunteers, health champions and leadership program graduates.
connectwest recognises all leaders. Those that have gone through formal leadership, governance or champion programs and people active in their community.
Where?
connectwest is based in Melbourne Victorias western region.
Including the suburbs of Maribyrnong, Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Melton and Wyndham. We welcome anyone who works, learns or lives in these areas and are happy to talk with others outside the region if our values align.

What?
Increase connection, collaboration and shared learning between community leadership programs.
- Events to support community leadership – such as networking events or learning and development opportunities.
- Activites to add value to existing community leadership development programs.

“Treasures in the West” – connectwest expo
Saturday, April 14th was the connectwest expo “Treasures in the West”.
A full day dedicated to showcasing some of the great programs and groups in Melbourne’s west.
The day saw many speakers and over 30 stallholders from a range of areas, including arts, sports, health, employment and other groups/services.

More Information and Background
connectwest has emerged from the Community Leadership in the West project. This project used a co-design process to let people come and work together in the design, development and implementation of what they wanted to see in the area.
connectwest is the result. A group to help fill the gaps identified by community leaders in Melbourne’s western suburbs.
